This issue was the Federation’s first
Commemorative. The public were invited to
submit drawings in black and white or in
colours for the designs, a prize of £25
was offered for each accepted design.
A total of 39 entries were received and
examined by a committee consisting of the
Postmaster-General, representatives of the
Rhodesian philatelic societies, Government
Departments and the Mayor of Livingstone.
N.E. Horne submitted the above Essay’s,
which were not accepted. They were part
of R.C. Smith’s collection and are
illustrated in his 1967 book on Rhodesian
philately on page 392.
